Join the Birding Experts for an Early Bird Walk

Normally, our bird walks are held on the second Saturday of each month, but this month’s walk was rescheduled due to hunting on the refuge.

This event will take place as scheduled despite the shutdown. Please note: the Visitor Center is closed, but outdoor restrooms remain available.

Master Naturalist Jack Chiles will lead this Early Bird Walk, weather permitting.  Participants will view birds and wildlife along Harris Creek Trail, walking about two miles, and returning to the Visitor Center in time for the Second Saturday program.

Free and open to the public.  Donations are accepted to support this and other events and programs sponsored by the Friends of Hagerman NWR.

Join us with membership today to receive the monthly Featherless Flyer newsletter with nature articles, program information, updated events and other important refuge information.

Adopt-A-Nestbox Today!  The Perfect Christmas Gift!

Each year, the Friends of Hagerman invite the public to support the Eastern Bluebird population—and learn more about these beautiful birds—through our Adopt-A-Nestbox Program.

When you participate, you’ll have the chance to name your adopted nestbox and visit it as often as you like. All boxes are easily accessible along the Raasch or Harris Creek hiking trails.

During nesting season, you’ll receive a weekly email with a photo of the inside of your nestbox and an update on what’s happening at each stage of the nesting cycle. It’s a fascinating way to follow the life of a bluebird family—and an adopted nestbox makes a unique and meaningful Christmas gift!

Your donation of $50 helps cover the cost of maintaining our impressive Bluebird Trail, which includes 45 nestboxes throughout the refuge.
