Become a Junior Wildlife Ranger!

Become a Junior Wildlife Ranger! Pick up an HNWR Nature Journal in the Visitor Center Nature Nook. Children complete the  Nature Journal, which involves  identifying animal tracks, completing a nature scavenger hunt, and finding birds.  After the completed Nature Journal is reviewed by staff or volunteers at the Visitor Center, a Junior Wildlife Ranger badge is awarded.      

 

The Refuge Rocks for Youth

The Refuge Rocks is the name for the Friends nature activity program for children, with a different topic each month, January through November, geared to two ages levels, ages 4 - 6 and 7 - 10.

Children in the younger group are to be accompanied by a parent or other responsible adult, and parents are invited to attend with older children.

Making reservations for this free program is optional; we know many folks have to plan at the last minute, but it helps us assure sufficient materials for each child.  You may register online or by calling the Refuge, 903 786 2826. Butterfly Docent Training

Do you love butterflies and native plants? Do you enjoy being outdoors and meeting new people? If so, then consider joining a group of volunteers who serve as docents in the Butterfly Garden at Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge. Training for new and returning docents will be held on Saturday, April 6, from 10 - 11:30 a.m. at the refuge in the FOH meeting room with the first Garden Walk of the year to follow from 12 - 2 p.m. Bring a brown bag lunch and join us for the day!
