Schedule Correction for November

 David Parsons, Master Naturalist and certified Master Entomologist, will present a program on Integrated Pest Management: Fall Web Worms on Nov. 12 @ 3 p.m. at Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge. He will discuss the basic biology of the insect along with biological and pesticide control measures applicable to the Texoma area. The talk will be geared toward home owners who wish to manage the insects on small properties up to six acres in size. The program is free and open to the public.

The 2017 Nature Photography Contest slideshow will be shown from noon - 4 pm on Saturday, Nov. 11 and from 1 - 5 pm on Sunday, Nov. 19, not Nov. 12.

High on the Hawg

 Got a hankering for BBQ?? Don’t miss HIGH on the HAWG! 8th annual Friend-and-FUNd-raiser.  Chair Pat Crone invites everyhone out to Hagerman NWR for pulled pork BB and all the trimmings.  Entertainment by Greg Guymon and Little Big Iron, is being  sponsored by Landmark Bank and First United Bank,. Meals served from 4 - 8 pm, suggested adult meal donation - $10; $5 for children age 12 and younger - we also have a hot dog meal for kids!  No advance tickets, at the door only. New this year - SILENT AUCTION!  Disney tickets, golf packages, food gift baskets, artworks, plants, bird feeders, Betty Boop desk, Bluebird nestbox, pole and predator guard; gift certificates,  baked items, all stuff you know you want and NEED for yourself - or for holiday gifting!  Event proceeds will go to the picnic table project at Hagerman NWR.

 

Outdoor Crew Does Good Work!

The Outdoor Crew at Hagerman NWR will meet from 9 - 11 am on Tuesday, November 7, weather permitting. Due to the holicday schedule, there will be just one seesion in November.

Chair Larry Vargus reports that the crew completed work on refinishing  the Butterfly Garden benches in October. The other projects are outside work and we need to dress appropriately: gloves, work clothes that protect from weeds and brush, eye protection, and boots - while we should not be in water there still could be muddy areas.  If you have loppers, bow saw or other hand held equipment that helps you cut brush please bring them. 

Vargus  asks that those who want to help use CONTACT and they will be sent details, any schedule change, etc. by email.


Adopt-a-Nest Box 2018

We will have 20 nest boxes up for adoption for the 2018 season, first come first served, starting December 1.  Adopters get their name on their designated box and weekly emailed reports, including photos of nesting activity during the nesting season.  The adoption fee is $30.00.

The Adopt-a-Nest Box form can be downloaded friendsofhagerman.com/News, starting December 1, or obtained in the Nature Nook. Please complete the entire form.  Boxes may be adopted for yourself or as a gift.

 

Service Opportunity

Do you love spending time at Hagerman?  Are you interested in "giving back" to the Refuge?  Do you have experience with finance (treasury), program organization or presentation, retail management, volunteer recruitment, fund-raising or communications?    If so, please  contact us about joining a working committee of the Friends of Hagerman.  

Come and join a dynamic group of go-getters and support your Refuge.  You'll get way more out of the experience and the Refuge the more time  and effort you put in.
