This attractive plant, American Lotus, is also invasive, and creating habitat problems for wintering and breeding ducks at the Refuge. Efforts are underway to remove it from Meadow Pond.
A number of Bluebird boxes have been placed along Meadow Pond Trail. Titmice, Prothonotary Warblers and Wrens, as well as Bluebirds, have used the boxes successfully. The photo below shows one more box resident, a tree frog, found peering out a knothole in one of the boxes along the trail.
Here comes the train!
The track that now runs alongside part of Meadow Pond Trail belongs to the Union Pacific Railroad, and was previously part of the M-K-T or "Katy" Railroad lines.
